What an AI agent costs a small business, and what drives the price

There is no honest single price for an AI agent. The cost follows the job. Here is what moves it up or down, and what a fair quote should include.

The short answer

The cost of an AI agent for a small business depends on five things: the job it does, the systems it has to reach, the state of your records, how much human review the work needs and the support after setup. A narrow internal job on clean records costs far less than a project that touches many systems.

Puestario does not publish a price list. We quote after we meet you in person and see the job, because two businesses asking for the same thing can need very different work. This guide explains what goes into a quote, so you can compare any offer, ours or anyone else's.

Five things that drive the price

Each of these can double the work or cut it in half. Ask about every one before you sign anything.

  1. The job. One repeated task with a clear finish, like a morning follow up list, is the cheapest place to start. Open requests like help with everything cost the most and are the hardest to test.
  2. Your systems. Every system the agent reads from or writes to needs access, setup and checks. One spreadsheet is simple. Three systems with different logins and rules take longer.
  3. Your records. If the information is scattered, out of date or kept in someone's head, part of the work is getting it into a shape an agent can use.
  4. Review and safety. Work that touches customers, money or personal data needs more rules and more checking. Our standard service keeps the agent internal and away from payments, which keeps that part simpler.
  5. Support. An agent is not finished on install day. Software changes, connections break and the job shifts. Ongoing maintenance is part of the real cost.

The costs people forget

The AI service itself. Agents call an AI model, and most providers charge by use. Ask whether that usage is part of the quote or billed separately, and who keeps an eye on it.

The machine. Some setups run in the cloud. Ours runs on a dedicated machine installed at your business. Ask where an agent runs and who maintains it.

Your team's time. Someone has to show how the job is done today, answer questions and review the first results. Plan for time from the person who owns the job.

Training. Your team needs a short walk through of what the agent does, what it does not do and how to flag a mistake. Ask whether that is part of the setup.

Changes. If the job grows, the agreement should change in writing, not quietly.

How to compare offers

A low price with no written test is not cheap, because you cannot tell whether the agent works. Put these questions to every provider, including us.

  1. Is the job written down, with a clear finish?
  2. Is there a written test, and when is it checked?
  3. Which systems will the agent touch, and with what access?
  4. Does it contact customers or move money? If so, what rules apply?
  5. What does support cover after installation?
  6. What happens to the setup and your data if you stop?

How Puestario quotes an agent

We start with a call and then meet in person at your business in Miami-Dade. We do not take fully remote projects, because the job only becomes clear when we see how your team works.

After we see the job, we write the task, the information the agent may use and the written test on the Job Card. You review and sign it before we install anything. Then we install the agent, check the written test with your team on the review date and keep maintaining it.

Questions

Is there a free option?

Puestario publishes a free, open source starter kit for technical teams that want to set up an agent themselves. It needs technical setup and has its own running costs. The managed service is different: we set it up and maintain it for you.

Why doesn't Puestario publish a price?

Because the work depends on the job, your systems and your records. One published number would be wrong for most businesses. We would rather see the job and write the plan with you.

Can I start small?

Yes. Every Puestario project starts with one agreed job. You decide whether to add more after the first one is working.

Is an AI agent cheaper than hiring someone?

It is a different thing. An agent can take repeated work off a person, but it does not replace judgment, relationships or changing work. Our comparison of an AI agent and an office admin goes into this.
